Summer Travel to Hungary

By 1800FlyEurope in Destination Highlights | on March 16th, 2010

Have you begun to think about your travel plans for this summer? There are so many cities and places in Europe that would be wonderful to visit during the summer months, but this blog entry can only be so long!

One of my favorite cities in Europe is Budapest, Hungary. This place is incredible.  Here, you can see the Hungarian Parliament which is the largest building in Hungary and the second largest Parliament in Europe.  This Gothic Revival style building is home to magnificent paintings, stained glass, the Hungarian Coronation Regalia  and various decorations made from over 88 pounds of gold. It is an absolutely stunning sight to see.  You can also visit the monument at Heroes’ Square at the end of Andrassy Avenue and take a relaxing soak in the nearby ancient medicinal baths. There are quite a few to choose from, three of the most popular are the Rudas Baths, Gellert Baths and the Szechenyi Bath – all of which are centrally located.

Of course, your trip to Budapest would not be complete without a sightseeing cruise on the River Danube.  On top of finding for you a cheap flight to Budapest, we can arrange this river cruise.  And, for booking both components of travel with us, you will receive additional savings on your already discounted travel package!

If you book your trip to Budapest in advance, there will be more seats open and cheaper airfare due to the availability.  If you’re worried about booking early, thinking that  an emergency may come up that could prevent your travel, adding our optional insurance to your travel package is – as always – highly recommended.

So whether you are perusing the shops, touring the town center, dining on traditional Hungarian cuisine, soaking in a thermal bath or enjoying the summer breeze from a boat on the River Danube, your vacation in Hungary will be incredible and unforgettable.

World Cuisine Wednesday

By 1800FlyEurope in Destination Highlights, World Cuisine Wednesdays | on March 3rd, 2010

One of our destinations that is steadily growing in popularity is Prague, Czech Republic. This lovely place is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  Unlike other cities in that particular region of Europe, the majority of Prague’s landmarks, structures and ancient buildings were untouched by the ravages of  World War II. To this day, it is one of the best preserved cities in all of Europe.

If you ever get a chance to take a trip to Prague, do not turn it down! It is not only a great place to visit for fun, but the visit itself is also a learning experience. One of the sightseeing activities we offer is a guided walking tour called Discovering Prague.  During this tour, you can visit  the oldest and most interesting monuments and buildings of the city and learn about the most important sites in the historical city center.

This week’s recipe is for Beef and Pepper Goulash and it comes from the heart of the Czech Republic.

Beef and Pepper Goulash

1 ¬Ω lbs beef cuts for stew
3 large diced potatoes
1 large chopped onion
2 large sliced bell peppers (red or green)
14 oz can stewed tomatoes
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tbsp butter
2 mashed garlic cloves
Juice of 1 lemon
1 tbsp crushed caraway seeds
¬Ω tsp marjoram
1 tbsp paprika
¼ tsp cinnamon
2 tbsp flour
5 c. water

Heat oil over medium high flame in a large pot. Once hot, put beef in the pot and brown completely.  Add in garlic and onion, fry until golden.  Add paprika and wait a few minutes before adding green peppers.  Let cook for about 3 minutes the pour in water, tomatoes, marjoram and caraway seeds.  Boil, cover and reduce heat to a gentle simmer.  Allow simmering for approximately an hour and a half, or until the meat is tender. Add potatoes and cook until soft.
